Winner of the Best Canadian Film at the 2018 Female Eye Film Festival in Toronto.

It's Hard To Be Human is a raw, surreal and moving portrait of a young woman sent to earth to learn empathy by her father - God.

A free adaptation of Strindberg's A Dream Play, It's Hard To Be Human is the visceral experience of Agnes, God's daughter, in the liminal place before death.

The book presents the complete screenplay of the film, and 72+ images showcasing Buhagiar's luminous vision as interpreted by acclaimed cinematographer Rudolf Blahacek. An incisive, free-wheeling conversation between Buhagiar and her lifelong friend and frequent acting co-star Don McKellar completes the text.

Lavishly offset-printed in full colour on rich uncoated stock, It's Hard To Be Human documents a film by one of Canada's most independent and innovative directors.
